
S. KWAKU DADDY IN CONCERT | Internationally known Master Drummer and folklorist, S. Kwaku Daddy,
is a native of Adabraka, Ghana. His father was a highly respected Master
Drummer from Dogbo, Dahomey and his mother an accomplished folklorist from
Labadi, Ghana. Daddy captures the heart, soul and rhythms of his country
with his "talking drums". |
| Daddy has performed with world class artists in jazz, rhythm and blues and
reggae, including Buddy Rich, Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Bellson and Randy Weston.
In 1978, Daddy assisted the Paul Winter Consort with their "Common
Ground" album. He has released seven albums under his own label, Heritage
I-VII, and is currently producing Heritage VIII. His compositions include
"Times of Change", "Lfie's Rhythms", "Drums To
Soothe The Mind" and "African Concerto". |

S. KWAKU DADDY TEACHING | In 1990, Daddy performed "African Concerto" as guest composer
and soloist with the Santa Rosa Symphony in cooperation with the area school
districts for multicultural studies. The same year, he was the recipient
of the Sonoma county Arts Traditional Folk Artist Award. |
| Well known in Northern California, Daddy has focused much of his professional
career on the interests of children throughout the world. He captivates
large audiences by including school children in his performances, widening
their intellectual and emotional scope with rhythm, dance, folk stories
and costumes. For the past five years, he has been an instructor in the
Sonoma State University Excel program, offering courses geared for children
in grades 4-10 that have been cut from public school cirriculums. |

| At present, Daddy is an instructor in the Music Department at City college of San Francisco and at Santa Rosa Junior college. He teaches traditional African music, folklore and philosophy. |
